Buy tahini -The complete guide

Everything you need to know about buying tahini

What is Tahini?

Tahini is a paste of ground, toasted sesame. We use peeled (peeled) sesame and a light roasting process.

How is Gil's Organic Tahini made?

The sesame is lightly toasted, peeled and ground with a stone mil. No additives, no salt

Where does Gil's Organic Tahini come from?

Our Tahini is produced in Turkey. We import the best organic sesame from Ethiopia - Humera region and Sudan-Gedaref region.

Why is our Tahini so special?

There are some aspects that make our Tahini truly unique: * We produce it in the highest standard factory using advanced machinery where all processes are controlled and food safety is guaranteed. * We follow traditional Lebanese preparation methods that give a light amber colored Tahini with sweet notes. * We use only organic Humera / Gedaref sesame. - Sesame of this origin gives a unique nutty aroma and creamy texture.

Why buy organic Tahini?

Organic tahini is made with organic sesame. Our farmers in Ethiopia and Sudan do not use pesticides and fertilizers. This is better for the environment, soil, biodiversity and also for the farmers themselves.  Organic sesame costs more money because yields are lower and farmers have to work harder. However, this leads to a better life for farmers because they work in a pesticide-free environment and do not have to import expensive chemicals to use in their fields. Therefore, we are happy to pay a little more for a product that is pesticide-free and creates a healthy environment and healthy farmers.

What can you do with Tahini?

Tahini has many uses. Dips, sauces, cakes and bread baking. You can find many inspiring ideas on YouTube, Instagram ets. Personally, I love making a tahini dip that goes really well with bread, with roasted vegetables (like ♥Aubergine♥) and of course to make hummus!

A basic recipe for Tahini dip

Preparation time: 3-4 minutes

♥Tahini ♥ A little water ♥ Lemon juice ♥ Salt ♥ Garlic ♥ Parsley

Instructions:

Put half a cup of Tahini in a mixing cup

Add lemon juice, salt and garlic to taste, chopped parsley if you like. You can also add preserved lemon juice and garlic powder, dry parsley ...

Slowly add water and mix continuously until the tahini binds to the water. Add water until you get the desired thickness. I usually use about 50% tahini and 50% water.

How long can you store Tahini?

Long. 2-3 years from production. Store in a dark, cool place. No need to refrigerate, do not freeze. Stir well before use because the solids tend to settle in the bottom and the sesame oil tends to float. This is perfectly normal and does not affect quality.

How nutritious is tahini?

Tahini is very nutritious. It has about 23% -25% protein (more than chicken meat!) And 61% oil of which 44% is unsaturated fat, which is the good fat like olive oil. Tahini has many minerals such as calcium and potassium. Tahini is also rich in dietary fiber - almost 10%!
